Interview transcriptions service

Interview Transcription

Interview recordings are any recordings with one interviewer and one or two interviewees. If you have a recording with more than three people, please see our meetings and round table discussions or focus groups pages. Apart from dictation, interview transcriptions are the most straightforward recordings to transcribe. However, it is still important to ensure that your recordings are of good quality and recorded in a reasonably quiet environment. There is a considerable amount of information on how to make the best quality recordings, which you can find on our FAQ and articles pages. Our rates for interviews are as follows:

Interview Transcription Price per Audio Minute (excluding VAT)
intelligent verbatim Standard rate £1.35
Discounted rate for universities, students, institutions and charities £1.20
Verbatim Standard rate £1.80
Discounted rate for universities, students, institutions and charities £1.55
Please note: This only applies to good quality digital recordings- assuming clear recording with minimal background noise and no strong accents. Our hourly rate for tapes is £22.50 per hour (or £20.00 per hour discounted rate). Please see the information on tapes and transcription times and type for more information on this.
We will also be happy to talk you through the issues and pitfalls of recording for interview transcription services, and how to avoid them. We can send you emailed copies of any of our articles if this would help.

We can time stamp your transcripts if required. For a time stamp every five minutes there is not cost but if you require more frequent time stamping there may be a small extra cost. We will always mark inaudible parts of the recording, should there be any, with the time they occur.

Verbatim

We are very experienced at providing verbatim transcripts and understand that under some circumstances e.g. police investigations, counselling, psychology or language research, a verbatim transcription is required. However, this takes longer and so costs more than intelligent verbatim. If price is a key factor, you should consider carefully whether you really need verbatim transcription. An explanation of the differences can be found on the transcription type page, so please make sure you ask for the one you need!

We are happy to provide digital transcription services or transcribe from tape, and can work with a wide variety of digital files including wav, wma, mp3 and dss files, as well as minidisk recordings.

University research transcripts are one of our specialities and we offer a discount to students and universities. The director, Anne Hickley, is PhD qualified with experience of editing scientific and non-scientific texts and she either transcribes or checks all work that goes out to our long list of satisfied university clients. She has written a number of articles on transcription including interview transcription, which many clients have found very helpful. Please visit our articles page to see these. We understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, adherence to deadlines and, where necessary, formatting for NVivo or similar qualitative research software.
