Mini tapes are produced largely for Phillips dictation and transcription machines . We would not recommend they were used for anything other than dictation unless you are able to attach an external microphone to your recorder, as the microphones in dictation machines are generally too weak to provide a good quality recording of more than one voice.

Provided there are no major issues adding to the time taken, such as strong accents, background noise or a need for verbatim transcription (unlikely with a dictation) then you should be able to safely assume a time for mini tape transcription of between three and four hours to transcribe an hour of dictation. Our standard rate is £20 per hour of time taken to transcribe, or discounted rate for charities, universities, students etc. of £18 per hour of time taken to transcribe.
